Love is what flows through all of creation; and the attractive or binding force which holds our universe together. Yet, very few people actually know what true love is; while an even smaller percentage of people have ever felt the awesome & intoxicating Love of God.
To fully define God’s Love is a very difficult thing to do, because it cannot be compared with any type of love on this earth or any feeling which we have experienced. It is greater than the love which we may feel for our spouse, or our family; and is even greater than the unconditional love that a mother feels for her child. Yet, the last example is perhaps the closest comparison to the perfection of God’s love; because He forgives us when no one else will & pardons us no matter how many times we do wrong. And if any words could describe feeling His love perhaps the best might be an Ecstatic State of Supreme Bliss!
Now, there’s no reason for us not to know this love; since it is the natural state of our souls. It’s right there in our hearts waiting to be awakened & desiring to be felt. And when we feel or experience a love of any kind, we are, in truth, tapping into this source. We just haven’t learned how to nurture the love we are feeling into the Divine Love from which it came.
The ways in which we can cultivate this love and connect more frequently with it are – prayer & meditation. For when our souls seek God through these disciplines we are showing God how much we truly love Him. And God’s love is always given to the seeker which looks for Him with all their heart & soul. For, God says in the Bhagavad-Gita, “those filled with devotion are above all dear to Me” (12:20). In fact, there is no greater love than the love which God has for our soul that seeks to know Him; and in truth, this is really the love we are all seeking to find.
So, why spend all our time pursuing a temporary earthly love? God’s Divine Love is the only true, eternal, and purely unconditional love that there is. Therefore, we should be devoting ourselves to God, through prayer and meditation, if we desire to have it. And when we allow this love to enter our hearts & take us over we become channels through which this love can manifest to those around us.
St. Paul described this Divine Love as:
“[A] love [that] is patient, [a] love [that] is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [A] love [that] does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, & always perseveres.” (1Corinthians 13:4-7)
When we are filled with, immersed in, and manifesting this type of love, we will see no differences in people. We will love all humanity as children of One Father. And then, we will fully comprehend that God is Love & Love is God.
God bless you on your journey & may you always – Heed the Spirit,
Anthony
