Whatever Holiday you are celebrating this season it should be a time for spiritual reflection. A time to contemplate how thankful we are for all God has done for us; and a time to celebrate His love for us. It is supposed to be a time of cheer, kindness, & joyful celebrations. But, in our modern society the true meaning of holidays (Holy Days) seems to have been forgotten.
Instead of a time which brings honor to God & togetherness among people, it has instead become a time to honor and reward Big Business & Corporations. Instead of a time for spirituality it has become a time which draws us into materialism; as every year the shopping season gets pushed up earlier & earlier and the time we get gather with friends & families gets cut shorter & shorter.
So now, instead of creating peace, love, kindness, & harmony, our consumer mentality has turned the Holy Day Season into a time of resentment, discord, & frustration. For just recently, I’ve seen people argue over parking spaces; fight over merchandise; and even push and shove through the shopping crowds, without any feeling of remorse, just to hopefully get what they have on their shopping lists.
Now there is nothing wrong with buying gifts for people, but the commercialization of our Holy Days should be very disheartening. In fact, this should be a time in which we reflect upon how we are doing in our spiritual lives and it’s sad that we’ve allowed this time for spiritual growth to be trampled underfoot by consumerism and materialism. It’s upsetting that we’ve allowed a time which should be used to celebrate God to be degraded into one of selfishness and thoughtlessness. And this is so sad because all of humanity ultimately desires the same thing — love & happiness. Yet, many peple are so spiritually blind that they don’t realize that by acting in such negative ways that they are adding to their own unhappiness and misery.
For, it is Law that we will “reap what we sow”; and that “what goes around comes around”. However, so many of us still don’t comprehend this truth. What it means is that every unkind, inconsiderate, & selfish action, word, or thought, which we send out into the world, must & will somehow, sometime, & in some way come back to us. Therefore, we can only hold ourselves responsible for the things which comes into our lives. If we are experiencing any negativity & unhappiness, then we need to take a good look at ourselves to see how we are treating others and what types of seeds we are planting in the world. For, If we were deceitful, then deceit will come back to us; if we were insensitive, someone will be that way with us; etc… The sooner we realize this the quicker we can begin to create a more pleasant life for ourselves; because every situation is meant to be a learning experience. Every experience is supposed to be teaching us to love & treat others as we want to be treated.
If we want happiness; then we must make others happy. If we want friends; then all we need to do is be friendly. And if we want love, then we must give love.
Therefore, as this Holy Day Season progresses let us keep this truth at the forefront of our minds. And let us be aware that what comes back to us may be 30x, 50x, or even 100x greater than that which we have sown; both good & bad. So, go about your day sharing your love freely and openly. And try to spread some light & cheer into the lives of all you meet; regardless of how they act towards you. And as you do these things, take notice of how much comes back into your own life.
May you have a blessed Holy Day Season & enjoy all the celebrations that will be taking place. And during this time try your best to always – Heed the Spirit,
Anthony
